Guidelines and Protocols - Code of Conduct
Fair Play
The San Francisco Stars Netball Club (“the Club”) expects all members to demonstrate fair play on the court and conduct themselves appropriately when representing the club. Our club principles include:
- Teamwork – We value our club members. Our teamwork leads us to improve, achieve our goals and have a healthy participation in netball.
- Have Fun and Enjoy Netball – We play netball because we enjoy it and have fun. We offer opportunities for club members of all abilities to play netball in a fun and friendly environment.
- Respect – We treat our club members with dignity and respect.
- Integrity and Honesty – We value and expect integrity and honesty from our club members.
- Unity – We are one club who values diversity, equality and inclusion for all our club members.
- Safety – We value safety and strive to provide a safe physical and emotional environment for our club members.
Code of Conduct
- All matches shall be conducted in a proper manner and shall follow International Netball Federation (INF) rules.
- The Coaches and Umpires are responsible for ensuring that teams play within the rules, but also the spirit of the club (which is for competitive play for the purpose of recreation and team-activity). It is the responsibility of all Club Players and Members to ensure they honor this code, and assist the Coaches and Umpires in their duties.
- The Club Players and Members shall not at any time engage in conduct which could bring the Club or the game into disrepute.
- The Club Players and Members shall at all times accept the decision of the Coaches and Umpires without question or dissent (verbal or otherwise).
- The Club Players, Members and Club officials shall not intimidate, verbally or physically assault, or attempt to intimidate or verbally or physically assault another Player, official or spectator. Overly competitive behavior that inhibits the enjoyment of others or physically endangers other members during play is not prohibited. Dangerous play that results in injury of another member is cause for disciplinary action.
- The Club Players and Members shall not make any public or press comment that may be interpreted as being detrimental to the Club or the game in general.
- The Club Committee Members are empowered to meet and act as a Disciplinary Committee, and having met, shall have the right to impose one or more of the penalties against any Member having contravened any of the above points.
- Penalties that may be imposed by the Disciplinary Committee for violating the spirit of the club or for misconduct on the court, or for any violation of the code of conduct are stated below.

- Respect the right of all other players, coaches, umpires, administrators and officials to participate in netball regardless of age, race, gender, ethnic origins, cultural and religious background, sexual orientation, political affiliation and creed.
- Play in the true spirit and within the rules of the game but without undue physical force to fellow Players
- Display high standards of communication and behavior with other Players, Umpires, Coaches, and Administrators which promote a positive image for the game and the club.
Umpires shall:
- Respect the dignity of people regardless of age, race, gender, ethnic origins, cultural and religious background, sexual orientation, political affiliation and creed.
- Follow International Netball Federation (INF) rules.
- Display high standards of communication and behavior with Players, other Umpires, Coaches, and Administrators which promote a positive image for the game and the club.
Coaches shall:
- Protect the right of every player to participate in the game regardless of age, race, gender, ethnic origins, cultural and religious background, sexual orientation, political affiliation and creed.
- Respect the spirit of the club.
- Respect the rights of opponents to play the game, officials and administrators to participate in netball, and other coaches.
- Maintain coaching standards of the highest level.
- Promote a positive image to players, other coaches, officials, administrators, and the public at large.
- Encourage fair play.
- Display high standards of communication and behavior with Players, Umpires, other Coaches, and Administrators which promote a positive image for the game and the club.
Administrators and Officials shall:
- Protect and respect the rights of players, coaches, umpires, and officials to participate in netball regardless of age, race, gender, ethnic origins, cultural and religious background,, sexual orientation, political affiliation and creed.
- Respect the rights of others.
- Strive to improve the club.
- Create an atmosphere that encourages fair play.
- Display high standards of communication and behavior with Players, Umpires, Coaches, and other Administrators which promote a positive image for the game and the club.
Penalties and Disciplinary Committee
The elected Club Committee Members are empowered to meet and act as a Disciplinary Committee, and having met, shall have the right to impose one or more of the penalties against any Member (Player, Umpire, Coach, or Committee Member) having contravened any of the above points.
The Disciplinary Committee is called to meet when complaints are received by any Player, Umpire, Coach, or Administrator pertaining to a potential code of conduct violation by any other Player, Umpire, Coach, or Committee Members of the Club.
Penalties that may be imposed by the Disciplinary Committee for violating the spirit of the club or for misconduct on the court, or for any violation of the code of conduct stated above include but are not limited to the list below.

- A written reprimand
- Suspension from play for a specified period of time
- Prohibited from representing the Club at Tournaments
- Long-term expulsion from the the Club
